Aprons on the brain

Gruene_apron

Before I get off the subject for a while, I wanted to share a few more aprons.  Above is one I picked up at an antique store because it was cheap and I loved the fabric.  It has a skimpy cut so it isn't perfect for me so it may be dress up for Bea or I may reuse the fabric in something else.  But not for a while.  It's pretty as is.

Suzannas_apron

This apron belongs to my friend, Suzanna.  She picked it up at a vintage store.  I love the shape and the triangle pockets.  The two lines of trim is also a nice touch.  I've borrowed it for further study :-).

Mary_sues_apron

This apron belongs to my mother-in-law and I swiped it for photographing and pattern-making.  It is a great, old style.  It has had hard use -- very stained in the middle from years of hand-wiping.

Moxie_apron

I picked this up recently at Moxie and the Compound.  It was made from vintage cloth and was marketed as a Size 5 dress.  Well, it is a Size 12 wrap apron.  The wrap apron with halter top is a great style I think - flattering and functional.  Someday I will try to recreate this one, but for now, someone else did the sewing for me.  I just love the color/pattern combo -- sooo happy.

Old_childs_apron

And last but not least is one more apron from my Grandma's collection.  I just remembered I had taken this charming little child's apron during on of Grandma's giveaways.  I thought it was some sort of weird bib, maybe for twins.  Truly - I had no idea how it worked at the time.  I just liked the blanket stitch and cute animals.

Bea_in_old_apron

It wasn't until I read a book on old aprons that I figured out how it worked.  Cute, eh?  Does this style have a name?  I can't believe I didn't make Bea a half dozen shirts like this for the summer.  (No - still no pants.  Still 90 degrees.  Maybe I should make one of these now anyway!)

There are some more detail and very poor modeling shots in my Apron set on Flickr for those interested.

very nice aprons.

that children's apron is way cool!!!!! LOVE it!

Oh, Amy... I love that kiddy apron! Is there any way you might trace around it on paper and mail it to me?!?!

Love the halterneck and the kiddies ones - so cute. I must start wearing an apron - I'm terrible about wiping my hands on my clothes.

Especially love the chevron apron and the kiddie apron on Bea.

When Aidin was a wee one my mom made her little summer "dresses" like that with matching bloomers underneath. The dresses came over the shoulder and buttoned in front. They were so cute and Aidin thought she was really somethin' in them.

Love the halter apron and the kiddy smock/apron (which would make an adorable shirt over little shorts!). I would love to get measurements for that for my friend in CA who will have a little one next summer!

Ok - the apron Bea is wearing is positively the cutest apron I have ever seen! I would have never figured it out either without a book, but I'm so glad you did!

What a collection you've got going there! Wow! great stuff and that one that Bea has on!!!ACK! MUST make some of those! So cute. I'd have never figured that one out. ;-)
(Barely any clothes on here either.)

Children used to weart these over their dresses here. In our household we call them pippi longstockings apron because she wears them all the time! Ottobre had a pattern for it a while ago and I need to buy. I so want to make this..

that is the cutest little childs apron! I love the little animals.

I really like the second one down. The shape is fantastic.

Love that fabric on the first one, too! I am so amazed at the variety of patterns. I haven't been much of an apron person, but now that I am living in a cold climate, loading on the layers and don't always want to be washing the outer layers that are keeping me warm, I am thinking an apron or two would be a really great idea!

I love the kiddie apron too. I want one for myself (don't worry. I'll wear pants).

Oh my goodness, that little apron Bea is wearing is wonderful. I may have to figure out a similar pattern to make my daughter some tops for the summer. Thankyou for sharing it! (PS - this is the first time I've delurked - I really enjoy your blog).

I love that style of the child's apron. My daughter wore some shirts like that a few summers ago. I need to ask her Nana to make some bigger ones.

Again, these are some fabulous aprons! I love the one from your MIL--that's an apron that was worn every day, for sure. The shape of it kindof reminds me of the apron I made for last months Tie one on. That one was made with a reprint of a vintage pattern. I love that shape. I also love the one with the triangular pockets--interesting shape to that one to, I'd like to see it on. And Bea's apron is adorable. I don't think it's right for Jack (he is more of a smock type guy) but maybe I will have a girl next time (fingers crossed ;])

I love the vintage toddler apron! It's an ingenious design. I'll bet it can't fall off or easily be pulled off, either. So cute with the embroidery and blanket stitch.

It's a new collection... the first one was the marchboxes.

Oups! I mean "matchboxes".

I think that is the cutest one, I've seen. I would never have guessed how to put it on either, but to cute.

Hi Amy,
I just wanted to write and thank you for sharing the pattern to your grandmother's children's apron. I am a complete beginner sewer and chose your grandmother's apron as my very first project. I love it! It is so simple and yet so elegant. It looks gorgeous on my five month old daughter. I have twins, so, I think that I will definitely be making another one!
Thank you so much!

Hello, just wanted to thank you for the smocket info. I found it on themayfly.com which led me to your site as well. I made my nieces aprons for Christmas last year and forgot to let you guys know -- anyway here are the pics to prove it! Just goes to show that these wonderful creatively sharing blogs keep giving :) Love your happy blog too!

Oh My! I love these! I was googling for nice and easy artist smock for my 3-yr old and stumbled upon your wonderfully creative space! thanks for sharing, and for sparking ideas in us readers.
