Corners of My Home: Sewing Corner
It's been freshly spruced up so now is as good a time as any to document my sewing corner. I used to have a quilt top hanging on the wall -- to enjoy it and remind me that it needed quilting (hand). I took it down a couple of months ago to start that (another story) and have been looking at a blank wall ever since. Since another wall quilt for myself is not forthcoming, I decided to do a quick fix and stapled some of my favorite fabric around a framed canvas. Done. I need another look at that fabric.
Ahhhh. I couldn't even bring myself to cut the fabric to size - hence the ragged edges (and, what you don't see, the folded up fabric stuffed in the back.)
Even the sewing storage area, formerly known as a book/display shelf, is tidy.
My sewing area is in our sunroom. To the right is the kitchen. To the left is the "dining" table. Behind is a sitting area. In the middle of everything. It's a blessing and a curse.

wow - if my husband saw that he'd make me get started on my messy crafting area RIGHT NOW! it already drives him crazy. oh well. the fabric is GORGEOUS - i love it - putting it on a canvas was a brilliant idea.

oooooh, very nice space! I have 3 fabrics stretched over canvas at our house. Easy and nice to look at! I like your desk space a lot.

what a great idea--i have too many bare walls and too little $$--so I may have to get me some canvases to cover...
and I love the bookcase/storage area. looks like a lovely area to work.

It looks so nice and homey. I really need to get back to working on mine - it's been a work in progress for at least a year now.

I like the fabric 'picture'. I have one hanging in the livig room, and think I might put some more through the house. I can also see why you wouldn't want to cut that fabric, it's gorgeous.

I can see why that's one of your favorite fabrics! It's so pretty. I am inspired to create my own workspace. I have the room, just not the time (so I tell myself).

Well, you know I LOVE that fabric. It also looks like the binding to Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home. One of my favorites.

Besides the beautiful fabric wall hanging, I had to search the other details...ie, Jenny's photo of bottles, Bea's delightful painting, Mexican tile and other familiar things on the shelf...but I can't place the black & white photo...and can't remember the bowl for sure. Fill in the blanks, please. :) You are so organized!

Love the sewing space and the fabric. If you can't bear to trim the fabric, maybe you could run a vertical ribbon on each side, tacked to the back?

What a wonderfully organized space to work in. No where in my house is ever that organized! I want to thank you for the scrap package we received yesterday. My daughter went through it right away.( I was allowed to keep the apron. Thanks for throwing that in ...I collect aprons so it was a nice surprise.) She made a little overall outfit for her sisters stuffie that night ,perched on the floor in the middle of the chaos that is our house. Thanks again, it was a very sweet and generous gesture. Oh and that fabric on your wall is gorgeous!

I've tried covering canvases before with little success - they always ended up looking too girly. But you've made it beautiful! I think I just need to have a more grown up taste in fabric! It's nice to be able to sew in a space where you can hear what's going on in other areas of the house, huh? My sewing machine is in the back room and the kids know I can't hear them...and that always means trouble.

That IS lovely fabric! I'd hang it up there, too! Your sewing area is lovely and peaceful.
You've made me realize it's time to shop for an armoire or shelf for my fabric and craft supplies. ..Oh, man would that be a funny post--I might have to share a picture of my gimongous fabric monster-stash that's hovering over my work area on the shelf. Scare-EY.

That black and white photo is of the Kansas City sky line from out of the Honda's sunroof as Dad was driving and I shot that picture. Man that was a lucky shot.
It turned out to be a pretty cool photo. Amy has always liked it.
